Group Visits
Why Visit The Learning Curve?
The Learning Curve loves having groups visit! All groups are welcome: school field trips, scout troupes, church groups, camps, and all other organizations. Visits to the Learning Curve contain small group activities planned by the Learning Curve Activity Guides, one-on-one access with laptops, and introduction to the exciting computer game CurveWorld.
Always striving to be the library of the future, the Learning Curve upholds the practices of the traditional library while keeping pace with fast moving changes in information technology. At any time in the Learning Curve one may join activities rich in Information Literacy. These activities are fun for kids and contain valuable educational opportunities. The foundation of every Learning Curve activity is the Information Literacy Standards. The Learning Curve's standards fit into your curriculum and the Indiana Academic Standards.
What Happens?
Prior to your visit, check the Group Visit Preparation Packet to prepare for your visit. A Learning Curve Guide will welcome you and review the day's activities. The guide will help you to select the best activities for your group and schedule. When ready, you will proceed upstairs to the space to join the activities. In the Learning Curve many activities may already be in motion, but you can join in.
Check In
Groups should enter through the 9th Street Entrance. Bus parking is found directly outside this entrance. A library employee will be there to greet you. Please be sure to arrive at least fifteen minutes before your scheduled visit.
Length
Activities vary from fifteen minutes to an hour. Groups may participate in as many activities as time allows. The length of your stay is up to you. Check the Schedule to preview options open to you before arriving. You may choose two fifteen-minute activities, an hour activity, or cruise CurveWorld for fifteen minutes. You decide! It’s up to your schedule and curriculum.
How Do I Prepare For a Learning Curve Visit?
We created a Chaperone Planner (PDF) to help make your visit to the Learning Curve both fun and stress-free. Please take a moment before your visit to meet with your chaperones and have each of them fill out this guide.
Library Cards
The Learning Curve suggests that everyone in your group bring his or her library card. Check with your group before coming to the library. Encourage your students to sign up for a library card before your field trip.
